Hi Angela, what had inspired you to attempt sky diving?

I was inspired by my friends who tried skydiving during their school exchange trips. Skydiving seems very thrilling to me. Besides, it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As my group of friends were psyched by the idea too, it heightened my interest because it seems fun to do it with friends. What’s more, we will be skydiving in one of the top 5 countries renowned for skydiving.

If I want to sky dive, what are the top 5 must-bring items for the trip?

Actually, you do not need specific items to do this activity. You basically need yourself! If you really want me to name them, probably wear a pair of canvas shoe so that your shoes will not drop out while skydiving. You could bring camera to capture some shots before getting on the plane. Jacket too, as it is really cold up there. Some food or snacks so that you don’t have to eat much in Switzerland because the food in Switzerland is expensive. Ipod touch or Iphone is really important to tap wifi at hotspots especially when internet is hard to find when you are travelling.

Wow, thanks for the tips! Would you encourage the other travellers to try sky diving?

Yes, definitely! It is a unique experience and you really need to muster a lot of courage to try it. Moreover, I figured that it will be too much for me to take when I get older. After trying it, I realised that it was actually not as scary as it seemed. The feeling of being as carefree as a bird for that few minutes is definitely worth it. At that moment, I felt that the whole world was at a complete stop for me to enjoy the scenery.

Can I ask you… what is the most challenging obstacle that you faced while sky diving?

Sky diving- Angela and friendsThe courage to pay the money to the organization because skydiving is so expensive. And once you paid for it, there is no point of return. Surprisingly, the obstacle was not at the second before jumping because firstly, the instructor would be the one pushing you down. Secondly, it happened so fast that you had no time to hesitate whether to jump or not.

Are there any local organizations in the particular destinations that travelers can look to if they need help?

Yes, they can approach ScenicAir, which is the organisation that organizes skydiving trips. Alternatively, you can stay in Balmers and they will help you sign up for skydiving trips. You can just pay your money to them and they will settle all administrative work and collaborative work for you. Staff in Balmers are really friendly. They also offer awesome accommodation for youths because of its cool facilities like piano, reading corner in the fireplace and table tennis table.

Besides Switzerland, what other countries would you recommend to undergrads who share the same interest as you?
I would recommend them to go Amsterdam in Netherlands. It is a scenic place, just like Switzerland. Though they do not have mountains like Switzerland, it has really beautiful windmills. This country is a sin city where there are red light districts and weed freely sold in public. It will be an eye-opener experience for anyone. Do visit these places before they are gone. The government is taking steps to ‘clean up’ the city. It does not have majestic buildings like other developed European countries like Italy and France so the feeling of being in Netherlands will be quite refreshing.
